Company and billing
Overview diagram. The text on this page has the exact steps and permissions.
Organization-wide settings
Company and billing settings apply to the whole organization: your company profile (used on invoices), your plan, your members, and which members are billable. Most changes here are for owners.
Where to find things
Company profile
Name, address, logo, and the details printed on invoices. Settings → Company.
Plan and subscription
Your plan, limits, and payment. Settings → Billing. See Subscription billing.
Members and access
Who's in the workspace and what they can do. See Team and access.
Bank accounts
Payment details shown on invoices. See Payments and reminders.
What your plan controls
Your plan sets capacity, AI access, operator seats, and other limits. Paid plans are processed through Paddle when checkout is available. See the pricing page for current plan availability.
Billable members
A member's type (employee, contractor, freelance, or external) is separate from their role. Only contractor, freelance, or external members can be billable; employees can't.
Example
Adding a freelance designer
You bring in a freelance designer for the Northstar portal. Invite them as a member, set their type to freelance, and mark them as billable. An employee couldn't be marked billable, which is why the member type matters.
FAQ
Who can change company and billing settings?
Owners, for anything sensitive, such as the plan or billing details. Some settings also need MFA and a recent sign-in.
Can a demo workspace send real invoices or take payments?
No. Demo workspaces are separate sandbox organizations. They never send real invoice email or process real payments.
