HoneyBook and Dubsado shine at the start of a client relationship: inquiry forms, proposals, contracts, scheduling, and payments. Both also support tracking hours and turning them into invoices, with time tracking on Dubsado's Premier plan. Why technical businesses look for alternatives
Booking-first tools are organized around a project you sell, sign, and get paid for. Developers, consultants, and IT service providers more often run open-ended engagements where clients send a stream of requests and the invoice has to reflect tracked hours.

Where HoneyBook and Dubsado win
They are the better choice in these areas:
Inquiry-to-booking flows with proposals, contracts, and scheduling.
Payments: HoneyBook offers card, ACH, and autopay; Dubsado offers payment schedules.
Dubsado's team pricing includes three extra users at no cost, and it supports multiple brands.
HoneyBook's AI features include email drafts and a meeting notetaker.
Where Flopinio fits better
Flopinio is built around one trail: an inbound client request, the tasks it became, the time tracked on them, and the invoice drafted from that time. Inbound sources (Gmail read-only, Slack, Telegram, Jira, Zoho Mail, ProtonMail Bridge) feed a review inbox, AI triage and reviews produce output you apply yourself, decisions can be signed off by the client in an authenticated portal, and an MCP connector (Beta) lets Claude and other AI clients read context and stage writes that wait for review.
Time tracking on tasks, imported into invoice drafts.
Requests from Slack and Jira, not only forms.
An authenticated, project-only client portal with decision sign-off.
A free plan for one client.
Switching notes
Keep HoneyBook or Dubsado if contracts and payments are central; Flopinio does not provide them. Projects and tasks can be imported into Flopinio from CSV files.
A note from the founder
HoneyBook and Dubsado are excellent at what they were designed for. The businesses I built Flopinio for rarely struggle to sign the client; they struggle with the hundredth request after signing, and with billing for it accurately.

Google connection availability and data use
Gmail and Google Calendar connections are currently paused for public use while verification and security readiness work is completed. Google Sign-In is separate. When available, Gmail intake is read-only; AI/search processing requires a separate owner opt-in. Captured Google text stays in a separate private source section unless explicitly shared, and is erased with its derived copies on disconnect. See the Google integration guide and Privacy Policy for availability, retention, and deletion details.
Common Questions
Does HoneyBook have time tracking?
Yes. HoneyBook's mobile-app guide describes a timer, manual time entries, and creating an invoice from tracked hours.
Is HoneyBook available outside the U.S.?
HoneyBook's pricing page states availability in the U.S., Canada, UK, and Australia.
Does Flopinio replace HoneyBook's contracts and payments?
No. Flopinio does not offer contracts, e-signature, or payment processing.
Can a client see project progress in Flopinio?
Yes, through the authenticated, project-only client portal: client-visible tasks, roadmap steps, and updates, with task comments and decision sign-off.
Which tool is better for hourly billing?
All three support hourly billing. HoneyBook can create invoices from tracked hours, and Dubsado Premier can apply time entries to invoices. Flopinio tracks time on tasks and previews completed entries before importing them into invoice drafts. Compare the request intake and billing workflow you need, alongside proposals, contracts, and payments.
